Designed to give a brief intro to the sport of mountaineering, what you need to know and how you can plan your own trip, the evening will cover an intro to - clothing, equipment, avalanche phenomena and forecasting, terrain analysis, route selection and recommended areas. The evening will also be a good refresher for people with past alpine climbing experience.
As mountaineering convenor I will be hosting the session, however the more technical aspects will be presented by Stuart Hollaway, member of the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association.
Following this workshop we will be organising a Pre-Alpine Instruction Workshop at Mt. Arapiles to cover practical skills - (dependent on interest)
